We could not have had such a carefree fairytale wedding without Astrid.

On our wedding day we rode in a horse-drawn carriage from our home through the streets of Amsterdam to our ceremony and party at the Industrieele Groote Club on Dam Square.  Our flower girl sat beside us wiggling with excitement and nervousness.  But we were not nervous at all.  Astrid had thought of everything.

More than that, she took care of us as the day progressed.  In order to keep our energy up, she had made sure that we ate before leaving the house.  At the party she gently drew us away from a conversation to feed us.  She kept an eye out for our guests and ensured they were taken care of.  She calmly and discreetly arranged for everything so that the day flowed naturally, comfortably and joyfully.  Our wedding was relaxed and inspirational for us and for our guests.

Of course this wonderful result did not come without months of preparation. We had a special reason for choosing a wedding planner.  Leslie has only recently moved from California and does not understand much Dutch so the idea of trying to find a location and wedding suppliers seemed impossible.  We also had no idea what the Dutch legal requirements or the official processes were for marriage in Amsterdam.  And the process turned out to be far more complex because Leslie is American.  We thought we had plenty of time when we contacted Astrid six months before the wedding, but Astrid gave us a reality check.  We needed to move quickly on certain legal processes and we needed to choose a location far in advance. Fortunately Astrid was able to guide us in through all this complexity. She was also able to handle the complexity that came with bringing guests from six different countries and hosting them for several days.  We had hired a truly professional event planner!

From start to finish, Astrid was calm, caring, organized and creative. She has an eye for detail and was able to suggest things we would never have considered.  For example, she suggested a kid’s room.  We welcomed children at our wedding.  We felt that it was a time for cousins to connect and we did not want anyone to miss the wedding because they did not have childcare.  And we also wanted the parents to be able to relax and enjoy themselves as well. So she made arrangements for a fun children’s room and also a cool teenage hang-out room with professionals who came equipped to provide safety and fun. The kids loved it and so did the parents. Astrid’s intuition was right.

Astrid is also flexible.  When we changed our mind and decided only a few weeks away from the day to have live music at the ceremony and a horse drawn carriage, she was able to make arrangements.  One of Astrid’s great qualities is that she has chosen and built excellent relationships with other suppliers and she is able to draw on those relationships to work magic.

We were impressed with the companies and people she partners with for flowers, photography, video, dress, invitations, cake and other services.  She has carefully chosen her partners.  She gave us choices and recommendations.  We found all the suppliers of these services to be of top quality, dependable and, well, really nice caring people.  Working with them made the planning process fun and creative.  Astrid has created a collaborative team with these suppliers.  Not only were they able to work well with her and with us, they also worked smoothly with each other.

One of the best choices that Astrid offered us was Guusta Veldman, from “Yes I Do 2”.  Guusta performed our ceremony with warmth and humor.  She met with us several times and got to know us and our story.  Guusta asked us to independently write love letters about each other and give them to her.  Preparing these letters prepared us for the wedding.  Writing them made the reasons why were marrying very clear in our hearts and minds and hearing the other’s letter touched each of us deeply. Guusta also wanted to know about our witnesses, parents and children. So we wrote short descriptions about them and what we loved about each.  These were shared in the ceremony.  We saw how our loved ones were moved by what was said about them. Later we heard how much it impacted the other guests to hear what Guusta shared.  One guest said he felt he was in a “circle of love”.  We are so grateful that Astrid introduced us to Guusta

We felt that Astrid really listened. She was able to help us create our perfect wedding and provide a fun and loving experience for our guests. She brought a wonderful team to make it happen.  Astrid was a true wedding gift for us.  Trust her.  She can make magic happen for you, too.
